Reports are slowly trickling in about Halburn's latest adventures in higher education.
PutnamLIES.com first got an inkling something was wrong on May 18. Three different departments from Strayer were reading PutnamLIES.com for most of that day, including Hallburn's mental evaluation.
You may remember that in June 2010, Halburn enrolled in Strayer to work on an MBA in Human Resources. At the time he said he HATED to invest $24,000 and three years. He thought a B.A. in communications was not respected by West Virginia employers.
We've got news for you fatboy.
It's not the B.A. that's not respected it's YOU ,Hallburn.
You actually have to know about Human Relations to get a degree in it.
Well, one year and $8000 later all he has to show for it is another stain on his record.
PutnamLIES.com was informed Thursday morning that Hallburn has been thrown out of Strayer.
Plagiarism? Cheating? Bullying? Harassment? Extortion? Arson? Bedwetting?
We don't know.
We're publishing the question. We're not publishing a statement.
There aren't many reasons that get a student kicked out near the end of the quarter.
It is a well known fact though, that Hallburn is a plagiarist and a bully.
What we do know is that he threw a tantrum and then threatened
the Dean, Dr. Phyllis Isley. That's when the cops got involved. He was told to never return and is now banned from the property. Imagine that, a woman, and a Ph.D. no less, telling Halburn no and he starts his bullying act. Why is this not a surprise?
He's lucky she didn't kick his fat ass. Literally. She's a 4th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.
Whatever the reason, we applaud Strayer University for standing up for academic honesty and against bullying. We hope they see that their mistake was admitting him in the first place.
We hope this doesn't affect his substitute teaching jobs in Kanawha County. For all we know they enjoy employing cheats and bullies.
Looks like Halburn has traded his mortarboard for a dunce cap.
His academic career lasted about as long as any of his jobs.
We'd LOVE to hear Halburn's side of the story. You know he has one. He's the smartest guy in the world. Just ask him!
We're sure it was a just case of mistaken identity, probably his 'nephew' again. Whatever it was, we're certain this was Strayer's fault. No, wait ...

ReplyDeleteHallburn didn't like the new "acting" dean and withdrew from Strayer to attend another university. In fact, he was sent a letter from Strayer offering an arrangement to attend classes away from her jurisdiction and turned Strayer down.
Your woman line is BS. The dean when I enrolled was a woman. She was a great person. There was a commitment made by Strayer about reviewing papers for APA format in the learning center. It was practiced for many months. Suddenly, the new Acting Dean came in, and without notifying me and other students, changed the practice. We were told to use a software program called Smart Think,(or something like that). Trouble is, the software DID NOT WORK! Then a new professor was not providing a grade before the next paper was due. Even their APA campus expert (that I worked with through one quarter) could not figure out what she wanted.(She trashed a paper that I submitted for review that earned an "A" with the prior professor. I complained to the regional dean about the situation, and she backed the Acting Dean (who was caught in a conference call CLAIMING to be dean-INSTEAD of an ACTING DEAN. In the same phone call the Regional Dean said two papers were graded-even though I HAVE YET to receive such grades). We disagreed.
ReplyDeleteWhen I spoke to the president (who I interviewed when the campus opened) she referred it down the line. Ultimately, I was offered a "global" campus situation where I would not deal with the local campus. However, this is not what I wanted when I enrolled. SO I WITHDREW.
I was NEVER kicked out. I have NEVER been contacted by any police.
I don't want to spend thousands of dollars with people that don't do what they agree to do. That's called consumerism. I have applied to and have been accepted at another university and will start as soon as some student loan transitions are complete.
Had Strayer kept the deans (including the female dean) and the APA review system that I enrolled with at the Teays Campus (the assistant dean left shortly after I started) I would still be there. They didn't. They changed the paper review system. I left-at my choice.
It isn't a gender thing, it's a commitment to customer thing. It's an ethics thing.
Such is life.

Plagierism was never an issue. In fact, I received complements about my writing from the person that reviewed my papers as well as the APA professional/tutor. Admittedly, APA style confuses me as it is very technical and EACH professor has a different style.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like 100 is always 100. With one professor, 100 could be 95 and another prof it's 135.
Unfortunately, papers are a HUGE part of the masters level grade, so the APA situation was a deal killer.
The university I am transferring to has APA software. You submit your text, the software formats it to their APA standards, and the professor MUST accept that standard. Strayer wants to allow more professor autonomy about APA.
The bottom line is that I want to learn to be a Human Resources Manager, and have NO interest in becoming an APA expert. NONE! APA is NOT used in professional HR environments, so I don't want to distract from my focus on HR.
For the record, the dean that was running Teays when I enrolled was Dean Eaton. If you do your homework you will learn that Dean Eaton is female. Her replacement at Teays is female. If I hated women, as is falsely alleged, I would not have enrolled and spent a year at Strayer. The replacement (Acting Dean) failed to keep Eaton's commitment or practices. I also did not like her style. As a result of this, I moved on. Which is exactly what I am doing now.
As a consumer and student, I have a choice of where to spend tuition money and where to study. Strayer lost.

You're hung up on the female dean thing aren't you? You just can't take a woman standing up to you can you? The girl at the pool, the old woman in the car, the clerk at the parks office, probably whoever you dealt with at the furniture company when you got arrested for robbery.

Strayer also has a choice about who they have in their programs. They made a mistake when they admitted you. They won when they got rid of you.
Why don't you tell us what the police said when they got there?

I have no knowledge of police being involved. They have not contacted me. Obviously, if I had done something wrong, or if Sorsaia and Smith wanted to harass me again, they would have arrested me. That conference call was recorded. Strayer knows what its employees did. And if they told ANYONE I was "kicked out," that is a lie and there are ramifications for lying about students.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't about a woman submitting. This is about an Acting Dean changing a practice without notifying a student and without making sure that software was working BEFORE changing the practice. It's called communication and common sense.
One other thing: When I made an appointment to meet with the APA professor (through the Acting Dean) he wasn't there. He arrived late because he was out shopping for snacks (with the Acting Dean) for a PARTY the next day. She has an assistant. There's no reason to stand up a student with an appointment to go shopping at Kroger. This was an insult to the professor and to the student.
In other words, you don't have a clue as to what went on!
This time it's the software's fault. It's always something or someone else's fault.

He can verify that plagierism was NEVER the issue. We leave plagierism to "Mike" that has ripped off my headlines, photos, and format.
As for profs that live for writing styles, they are typical out-of-touch academics. Students go to school to learn about a subject, NOT a writing style. Academics are in their own little world of non-reality.
You don't get banned from the campus because you can't figure out some piece of software.

2) Any company that hires the above-mentioned HR person isn't worth working for.
3) Any university that leaks (especially false) information about a student that withdrew is unprofessional, unethical, and not worth attending. In other words, I made a great decision to leave.
4) Any professional HR person will understand that when commitments to a customer are not kept, that customer has EVERY right to complain to management and if management fails to respond properly, that customer has the right to take their thousands of dollars to another company. Strayer's motto is, "We fit your life." In the beginning, under Dean Eaton's leadership, Strayer did a great job. When Isley came in, they failed to fit my life. I fired them as my educator.

ReplyDeleteI sent my notice of withdrawal despite an invitation to stay with Strayer. I was offered a "global" campus to avoid the conflict with Acting Dean Isley. At first I accepted, then realized that I was dealing with a university that no longer met my standards. I don't know who your source is, nor do I care. However, this has been referred to one of Strayer's lawyers as well as Dr. Stallard through her personal email. As I said in that email, someone has some explaining to do.

ReplyDeleteMike - we couldn't get that lucky. What is sad is that even people who are very caring and compassionate towards others, actually feel this way about Halburn. I guess it's just a natural instinct of good people to want to rid themselves of people that prey on weak or innocent people. His mentality and attitude are a virus that far too many share. They want everything to be handed to them and don't know the meaning of hard work and honesty.
